Hi everyone! First of all, let me say thank you to everyone on here, and the guys at BBC for being such HUGE resources! I purchased plans and started the planning process for my boat before I knew Bateau or this forum existed, and, most sadly, before I even realized Boat Builder Central was less than 30 min from my house! None the less, I can guarantee all my purchases will be through BBC and future boats built from plans on here!
That said, I’m building a 15’ Flats Skiff from Salt Boatworks. Id say it’s comparable to a slightly smaller, tiller steered version of the PH-16.
The build process laid out is somewhat backwards from the typical method seen on here. Start by stitching hull together, flip, stitch in bulkheads and stringers (no strongback setup). Complete all of interior, from the filets to the sole, foam, fiberglass and paint. Flip and complete bottom, then flip again and complete deck. That’s a few too many flips for me. I’m planning on doing a modified version (open to suggestions) where I have built a strong back, per se, and I will stitch bottom together, stitch in stringers and bulkheads for shape in lieu of temporary framing, and then proceed as you all do with completing bottom before interior.
I built my “strongback” onto my motorcycle lift. In theory this gives me not only solid casters to move it about, but also the ability to lift and lower it depending on the job. The photo below was before I added some more framing and support, but it seems quite level and sturdy! Time will tell.
Load of beautiful Okume from BBC, 8 sheets of 1/4” and 2 sheets of 3/8.
And where I sit now, all sliced up, and ready to start the scarf joints.
No puzzle joints in the plans, so cutting the scarfs, and per the guys at BBC reinforcing them with a layer of 12oz fiberglass tape.
Oh, and my daughter named her Kestrel (maybe with some encouragement to not name the boat “Groot” or “Pinkie Pie”, lol). Small, fast bird of prey sounds fitting. Look forward to y’alls help!

Welcome to the forums!
Jeff and Reid are fantastic guys and fun to work with
That's a lot of flips and I'll bet you'll be glad you nixed a couple out. With the strongback you'll be able to make sure everything is square and then fair.

If I am seeing correct you are going to be able to raise and lower your strongback at will. If so that is going to be a big help. That BBC plywood is some nice stuff, just wait till you put some epoxy on it and bring out grain you will start thinking about how to finish it bright

Scarfs are cut and epoxied together. Per Jeff’s suggestion I’ll also do some fiberglass tape over the joint as well to strengthen it...especially since a few of the scarf ends look like they were chewed on by a dog. Got my jig tuned in and the second half of the cutting went much better. Puzzle joints sure would have been easier.
It’s fun to finally start seeing the shape of this boat come to life!

Made a lot of progress! Hull stitched together, bulkheads and stringers dry fit. Now to start sealing joints.

Really looking good!

Thanks! Even though it’s what I expected and hoped for, it was still shocking to see it come together so well and even.

I like the reverse chines. It ought to help with a drier ride.
