There are a few guys who made them from Cedar 4x4. I made some from composite, but I am nervous mine are too small, so I plan to double drain them all or all four corners even. The ones I made I still need to lay in surgical tubing seals.
My boat build is here -------->

Edd, Find the thread for either the SK14 built by SeaSlug or try any of the builds by fishgitr. They both use the same method and they are excellent hatches. Jeff

Seaslug's Method:
https://forums.bateau2.com/app.php/page ... 30fc42d724

I followed his instructions and milled out 4x4 fir posts from HomeDepot. Had plenty of materials to work with and the scrap that was left was used to mount the hatches in place. I did not use a router but did mill out the channel with a Daido blade then cut and glued the shapes I wanted.

Pretty simple. Then used the hatch gutter assemblies as templates to make the hatch lids. Take your time and give it a try. I did use a 1/4" roundover bit along the edges of the hatch lids and gutters once installed. Gave it a nice smooth look. Used leftover 7mm Okoume for lid edges.

Other option: Buy FishGitr's save some time, install and fair smooth.

Here are a few pics of mine following Seaslugs method:

Well executed, Coach! Have you noticed any tendency for the hatch covers to warp and twist, or have the aprons held them flat?

No twists. I did glue a backer board on the front hatch to help eliminate that possibility, but did not on the rear hatches as they are small.
One thing I did not plan when building was the position of the lid and how close the edge lips (Aprons) would be to the gutter assembly. I needed to trim the hinge side down to about 1/2" and round over the edge so that the lid would not hit the gutter assembly when opening. It actually turned out well but I had not planned for it.
