LM18 SSI GA

Post by Edd »

Hey I’m getting started on my lm18 build. I’m going to have a center console. Its been a while since may last build so I’m starting with the console to get warmed up.

I’ve got some parts and a new 30hp Suzuki for motivation.

What is the best technique for putting a consistent radius on outside corners? In the pic the console is just tacked together with my pin nailer. Nothing permanent yet.

Use a 3/8" round over bit on a router, or just sand it starting with the corners and working in. Before I owned a router I did a lot of edges just with an RO sander, and in fact just did the edges of the stairs in the house as the router wouldn't fit into the ends.

I used finishing nails to temporarily hold edges together until epoxy tabs on inside corners dried. Then pulled the nails and routed where I could then used RO as capeman mentioned.

How wide is you console? Looks wide. For reference mine is 16". I still would like more room to walk around it. If I was to do it again I would go 14" wide console.

It’s currently cut to be 18” wide but nothing is set in stone. Also the top looks exaggerated in the picture. It’s only about 8” . I’m going to flush mount the lowrance. And put the gauges there.

Thanks for the advice from others too. I’ll route the corners where I can and sand the rest.

Hey Looking at your build, yours is 16” at the base, do you think if the width at the helm was 16” you’d be ok with that width?

I'm not sure I understand your question, the "Finished" base of my console was 16 X 43. From there all corner go straight up, so I have 16" width at the helm. With the rod holders on the sides of the console that add another 5" to step around, and I have big feet. I also went with a small wheel, this saved a ton of room. I think it was an 11" stearing wheel.

I’m sorry I was looking at your prototype console not the finished console.

What brand did you use for the hydraulic steering ?

I bought this I really like it. I went with the 75 version based on speed specs. If your running a 30 you could done size.
