The Silver Tip System 3 Yacht Primer they sell in the store here is a very good one. Goes on under most finish paints.

I’ll put my second in for the Silver Tip Yacht Primer. It really goes on nicely. Haven’t seen you ask yet but I’ll also highly recommend EMC Quantum 99 topcoat. Considered a top side coating but EMC tech said constant immersion in fresh water is fine and so is short stints in salt. Mine’s been on a fresh water lift with weekly use since December and I’m completely satisfied.

Are there any issues with boring the pilot holes out bigger, backfill with epoxy/wood flour putty, then re-drilling the pilot holes through the cured putty?

Primer finish looks great. I’m a big fan of southern yellow pine too. I used it structurally (laminated ribs, hogg, keel, floorboards) in a 16’ glued lapstrake. It was a plan from a British fella, George Whitsock). In an email I mentioned the mahogany he specified was expensive around here. He replied the properties are similar of SYP but it’s hard to find where he hangs out. We’re covered up with it down here.
