Abaco 23 Questions for Jacques

Post by Jeff »

This question arrived via email: "Hi there. I'm interested in building the abaco 23. i cant see any builds of that plan. Is there a reason for that? Also can the plans be modified. Would like the full 8'6" trailerable width and are wondering if the reverse chines could be increased 3" each side to achieve that. If I carried that forward it would slightly increase the length I think. Let me know your thoughts. cheers"!! Jeff

To modify the beam and step chine is a major redesigning. Not possible sorry but, if you are in the US, you can tow up to 9' wide with a $ 10.00 permit.

Jacques, that $10 permit you often mention is not a US nation wide thing. It’s something that exists in coastal states where a significant number of people have boats with beams a bit wider than 8’6”. For those of us living in land locked states it’s considerably more hassle and expense to transport oversized boats.
Previous builds: FL14, NC16, and others...

Current build: FL14 (+10%)

Yes, you are correct. I generalized: it is available in most states but not all.
