Our pontoons will work just as well with an electric motor, it odes not make any difference except in cost.
Keep the batteries centered like in a console or divided between the two sides.

Thank you Jacques!
My idea is to make a kind of solar boat i.e. eventually adding thin PV panels on the sun roof(guess 3 kgs per approx sqm.) I do not think this would be an issue?!.
Am thinking to make the pontoon boat out of epoxy/marine plywood with aluminum deck structures wherever possible, would you have any pro and contra or any suggestion?
Appreciate your kind comments.
Adriano

You can build an aluminum top and cover it with solar panels, why not?
Do the math for the panels: you can probably install 6 x 200 W panels easily, maybe be 8. That gives you 1600 W max. = 1.3 HP in full sun.
You need lots of batteries and a charging station. Not impossible but it will take a large battery bank.
Or go with Torqueedo, they have efficient batteries and good motors.

the mathamatical gymnastics for problems like this always interest me.......

Everything must balance,

intended use clearly defined
max solar area practical kw input calculated
battery sized
external charging as needed?

Study plans say the original had 15hp, so suppose a 10kw motor and average 5kw usage.
Solar gives you 1.2kw(Jacques estimate)

with 5kwh of lithium you could run an hour or so per sunny day with a little reserve
with 10kw of lithium you could run 2 hours every other sunny day with a little reserve

From what I have read, solar panels comparativly cheap now, but what does the motor and batteries and systems cost?
