Pin holes/ bubbles

Post by Edd »

What is the best remedy for this, see picture, all are in the bow area of my lm18

Fairing compound just seems to roll out of the holes when I try to fill them

Most are about a 1/16 wide

Try some raw epoxy. But kake sure to blow them out. Nothing sticks to dirt. If they are really on a bad angle for raw epoxy, add some baby powder or fumed silica. You need super fine stuff and a good 2-4" metal knife.

Pinholes are a pita. Quikfair does work on them pretty well I've found.

Fairing compound should work fine. Maybe thin it, or thicken it. I have used it to fill pin holes like those and it has worked fine. Maybe use a lighter touch on the trowel. I would try thinning it first using the thinnest of Part A or B.

Noooo...

No reason to mismix epoxy to fill a pinhole Tom. Resin is usually thinner, tolerances may be 5%, but it is not wise, sorry.

I used AwlFair and found it smooth enough to effectively fill pin holes. But yea, blow them out first. Epoxy products over dust won’t last.

Slightly more aggressive approach… sand them out and do it again. That’s the only way to ensure you get them filled.

How is that nothing sticks to dust but dust sticks to everything?

If only science could address the other side.

I can’t remember if it is negative or positive pulls the crud. Someone has to have a static method that is bette then blowing air.

Ha! Static...

I tried to paint in a low humidity environment and static so bad the hull was pulling tack rag dirt back off the rag. Watching it was freaky.

Old house of ours had a static based filter system. Is was great. Pulled the plates and rinsed them every couple months. Paper filters lasted forever. Someone has to make those for paint booths. Seems like a simple solution that might work for us.
