Strakes for XF20?

Post by Matthew Anderson »

I would love to hear opinions on this. I have seen comments on other XF20 builds where the builder wished they had put something on. Its a huge flat boat that looks like it will handle like a dirt flat tracker sliding sideways on a Saturday night. I get it, this hull design is for going skinny and the handling is what it is. I'm thinking of three strakes, one on the centerline terminating 12" ahead of the tunnel opening and one each port and starboard equidistant from chine to tunnel terminating 8" forward of the transom.

Is 3/4" enough? I would laminate them up and glass them in at this point. Three strakes 3/4" really won't affect the draft much,

That is a lot of flat surface.

First make the centerline strake end an least 2' in front of the tunnel. And no need to V them just extra work, they will actually be less effective.

Having watched a pro crabber powerslide his flat bottom punt off into the mangroves, I think the XF20 will need some help getting around corners!
