OD18 Progress

Post by PatrickO »

Have been able to get some things done. Am currently ready to turn the boat and start fairing the hull. Have the console built. Still need to fair and glass it and install hardware. Will get some better pics tomorrow.
Will be posting new pics in my album.
This is a big 18' boat. At least it seems bigger than some other 18 footers I've been in. Looking forward to getting the hull glassed.

Further progress

Post by PatrickO »

Got the rub rail finished off. That seemed like a milestone passed.
Posted some more pics.
Working by myself, I am trying to flip the boat to start on the hull fairing. Got it halfway with the assist of an old a-frame I used to step the mast on my sailboat.

Now that I have it this far, not sure how I'm going to get it the rest of the way w/out turning it into 1000 pieces of scrap wood. I'll have to use some American ingenuity.

Rollover completed

Post by PatrickO »

Solved the "by myself" rollover problem. Lots of rope, a muscle car, block and tackle, and leverage. Give me a lever and I'll move the world.
Posting pics now. :P

Back to work

Post by PatrickO »

Have been out of town for almost two months with family business. Am now back to work.
Got the hull painted, rolled and on a trailer. Started glassing the inside seams and should have that finished tomorrow.
It's time to install the chase tubes. I have some 3" electrical pvc, sched 80 that actually measures 3 1/2" OD. Should I use this or go with something smaller? A 3 1/2" hole in my 5 1/2" stringer seems really big and doesn't leave much stringer left.
Uploading some pics tonight.

Also got the clamping board installed. Built this from clear heart pine 4 quarter ten ft. long. Milled it to 3/4", cut it in half, and laminated together wiht the grain turned opposite. Turned out nice and sure stiffened up the back end.
