So, the stack is as follows:
1. Vac table
2. Wax
3. 1/4" tempered glass
4. Wax, left slight smearing
5. Pretty thick coating of sunshield.
6. Epoxy
7. Carbon/aramid
8. 6 oz woven
9. Peelply
10. 10mm bleeder
11. Breathe media
12. Bag
I might have effed it up and gone too soon, but I was way over an hour from spray time.???
If the surface is all effed; it will mean my epoxy and sunshield combined.
I would do it differently next time and roll the wetted glass onto the Sunshield to make sure to not overwork or disturb the poly layer. (If the surface seems off).
Or. I could go a little more catalyst. This was just a sample!

Re: Carbon overlay
Well. Some lessons learned.
Next time a little more catalyst. It did not kick quick enough.
Will wet out carbon on plastic amd move to the mould.
The epoxy wax uneven because I poured it on top the sunshield.
This led to waviness.
The Sunshield got pushed away during wetout on the edges.
Sample again Thursday.
This is sanded 400 grit and stop on fail.

Re: Carbon overlay
So, finally some success!
I made a new part. Built a dust tent.
I had a lot of trouble with the Sunshield fisheyeing.
I was about to give up; But it seemed like the fisheyes were shrinking.
Finally, I sprayed a couple more coats and the stuff sheeted out!
Another forum guy told me my wax is wrong. Too slick actually.
Anyhow, I heated the mold all day today and the part looks good!
So, tomorrow, a trip for different wax...
The back of the part has an excess of resin here. I think the bleeder release had a crease.
Dust tent
Prior to spraying I think. The sample part looks good except the ridgelines show through.

Re: Carbon overlay
Well, what a weekend.
Friday, I sprayed the mould. It cratered. For those that don't know what a crater is... I give you craters. Just under the size of a dime.
Took the topcoat off Saturday. It was 12 mils. I was hoping for 20; so obviously thin. But I was out of Sunshield.
Today, got more Sunshield and sprayed a whole quart on the mould. First batch had acetone. Second none. Both backbrushed and sprayed over. I think it'll work. Very few defects. Hoping it cures and tomorrow I will lay the carbon.

Re: Carbon overlay
It is under the glass. Looks stellar.
One flaw on an edge; shoukd cut away.
The glass has polyester overspray under; disregard.
