I think you need to keep looking.

Stick with the plans, and you won't go wrong.

I would say it's okay if you use it more than biax. I don't know the requirements for the bottom so I can not make a guess if one layer would be enough.

Let's wait for Jacques answer.

Sorry, you need to use Biax if thats what the plans call for. Fiber orientation, weight, and stitch/woven is important.

You would probably have to use more than 4 layers of the 8 oz. woven cloth to get the strength you need from on layer of 12 45/45 stitched biax.

Even if the cloth was free, you would end up spending more in epoxy (which is a lot more expensive than glass)

the lamination schedule states "woven fabric to cover bottom and sole" 6oz.
I was just wondering if the 8 oz. would be ok I can't see how a 2oz difference on such a small piece would hurt
I understand about sticking to biax where biax is called for...
I think it is there for abrasion resistance.
is the finish anything important ?

Then its fine :D You will only use a little more epoxy.

I just wated to make sure you were not going to substitute woven for biax.

Yes, he is correct. In that boat we use biaxial for all the taping but not for the bottom.
This is an exception: in the OD16/18 we specify a thick bottom with only a protective coat of glass.
The bottom is flat, we can do that with the OD's.
