User Rankings

We are making changes to the user rankings.

The main reason to have these rankings is to allow new users to make a quick judgment on the value they place on another user's post. It will never be perfect, we cannot sum a person's experience with numbers of stars, but its is useful .

Having the number of stars relate to the number of posts is only a measure of how many post someone has made and not terribly relevant to anything other than the fact that they might know the message board and the subjects written about here - still important for a new person.

We will maintain the rankings based on number posts, they will go up to 4 stars.

There are a couple new rankings that we have to assign to a user:

"Bateau Builder", 5 stars, will be assigned to someone who has completed at least on small/simple boat, or they are enough of the way through a large boat that they will be helpful to beginner. This person will have a good knowledge of our materials and building techniques

"Bateau Builder - expert", 6 stars, this is someone who has built a number of small boats, a single larger one.

The most important thing for us to stress is that the message board is here to help new builders get answers to their questions, everything else is good, but its secondary to this goal. These new user rankings have to be assigned manually, so please do not be offened if you do not see your ranking properly, please just post here and I will make the change.

Let me repeat what Joel wrote: do not get offended if we do not upgrade your status right away.
We will do it manually, one user at a time.
Post here and say that you are a builder and want to be listed as such.

BTW, right now it's just 2 categories.
Pictures are good but they don't count as much as a second boat.

I guess the non Bateau builds and countless rebuilds won't count.
