I'll be in Maine vacationing with my wife next week and thought to post here and see if anyone is up that way. I'll be staying on Little Deer Island. I'd enjoy anyone's recommendations on things to do/see/eat/etc. Sure lookin' forward to a break from the Texas heat.

I hope that either you are not planning access by the bridge, or Microsoft has a prankster on staff, or Steven King is writing a book with the bridge as a subject. This is the photo of the bridge that I accessed today on Bing Maps, Bird's Eye view...
Enjoy your vacation! I used to get up around Casco Bay in the Bath area. Beautiful area.

Wouldn't you know, that is probably the one week of the summer when I will be gone. I am on the east side of Vinalhaven, maybe 30 min away in a P19. However, be sure to hit the better eateries, especially down in Stonington. Have a great trip, and bring a sweatshirt. It has been in the 50's a lot this year.

Dougster, if you need any hardware for your boat Hamilton Marine is worth a visit, you can easily spend an hour or so just walking up and down the aisles, boat porn everywhere. Enjoy!

Dougster - we went to Maine for 10 days last summer - highlights of our trip were:
Don't forget to drink craft beer and eat lots of blueberries & lobster!

That's exactally what we did, and it was great. it's a very neat area, and away from the crowds of central Acadia. The short hike up to Schoodic Head offers great views as well.D2Maine wrote:Pack a picnic lunch and drive to Schoodic point
don't miss it - As I remember, it's not far from Deer Island.D2Maine wrote:Go to Brooklin and see http://www.woodenboatstore.com/Aboutus.asp
Awesome morning vistas of Camden harbor.D2Maine wrote:Camden hills state park...go up mount battie for more incredible views
If you get there, definatly walk out the breakwater to the lighthouse, and consider driving around the harbor to Owl's Point, and can check out the Apprentice Shop - we walked all through and talked to people - all nice.D2Maine wrote:just further on is Rockport harbor
