Yoda's HMD18

Post by Yoda Jr. »

Hello all,

After many years of this boat sitting mostly completed in the side yard of my house, I need to do something with it. It is apparent to me that I will not get it completed, with it sitting for over 10 years, with very little progress on it. For those of you who don't know, my dad, Lou (forum name Yoda) began building this boat many years ago but succumbed to cancer before getting it finished. Another member, Pastor Bob, took it to finish it but was not able to get it completed, and I got it from him and brought it to my house when I moved to my current house. I did some work on it, but have not had enough time to really dedicate to get it completed. I'd say it's about 85% completed, and my dad purchased all of the fittings and fixtures to get it done includes motor, seats, radio, head, and cushions for the v-berth.

While I'd love to get this boat completed, I'm simply not the guy to get it done. I'm looking for advice. I'm thinking about posting it for sale in its current condition and hoping someone is looking for a project. I know it's a small chance of that happening (I'm not too far from the SF Bay Area, so potentially a large market for a boat of this type there). I assume finding a boat builder and paying them to finish the job would not be cost effective (plus I don't really have the resources to pay someone else to complete this).

I'll try to get some pictures of it soon. It's been sitting under a variety of tarps for years, and it needs to be on the water somewhere. Any thoughts?

Dan

Dan,

Sorry to hear about these struggles. I wish you luck.

There might be a boat building club nearby. That's where I would start.

Here are some shots of the boats current condition. I have the seats, head, wheel and steering cables, radio and antennae, cushions for the berth, and practically every other fixture needed to finish the boat.

I'd really like to see this boat get finished, and am not looking to make anything off of it. Is there anyone who wants it? I'd likely keep the motor or sell it to whoever wants the boat. As I said, I have boxes and boxes of all the other fixtures needed to finish it that will go with it. For someone who knows what they are doing, a little time and very little money, and this will be finished. Unfortunately, time and money are the two things I don't have.

To clarify, I am wanting to give this boat, and all of the fixtures to complete it, away for free to someone who is wanting to complete it. I would either keep the motor or would be willing to sell it to whoever wants the boat for a reasonable price. This project needs to move forward, and it's just sitting and will likely be that way until it rots away, which would be a shame.

Road trip!

4000 miles return is what $1000 of fuel. Less?
