long distance sailboat

Post by babu_sneaky »

I just read on some old threads that you were working on a long distance 16' sailboat? Is it coming soon?

how does it compare to glen l's minuet? https://www.boatdesigns.com/products.asp?dept=459 I am leaning towards the AD16 but doesn't it being that wide affect the speed?

The AD 16 is a small blue water capable sailboat. As such it has to have enough interior room to house the crew when they are too far offshore to check into a motel.
The Glen-L design may not have been designed around those kind of considerations.

The beam and the freeboard will affect the speed but they help with stability and comfort.
Note how small the cockpit's leg well is: another safety feature compared to the Minuet.

Long distance sailing in such a small boat will always be a challenge. If you can afford the materials and labor, look at the VG23 instead.
