Fs 15.5 build

Post by smici01 »

Hi!
I want to ask for help.
I'm sure many people have asked, I'm sorry if I do it again.
I want to build fs17, -10%
I'm a little in trouble with plywood shopping
Where I live, the following plywood is available:
1. meranti or okume 6mm, but these plates are only 3 layers and that seems pretty weak.
2. birch plywood 6.5mm, it has 5 layers and is quite strong. From this I have already built an fs14 boat and it works very well. It is BFU100 / WBP / glued
3. Meranti or okume plywood is available which is made of 5 ply veneer but they are 8mm thick.
4. Also available pine 6mm thick, waterproof glued.
I would ask what are your opinions, can I build an 8mm meranti? lean enough to build enough fs boats? Or maybe 6mm 3 ply is enough? / Are fewer layers a problem? /
Thanks in advance for the answers.
Dennis.

The 8 mm ply is your best choice. The panels will bend and if needed, you will cut a few slits close to the bow in the bottom panel but probably not.
It will always be easier than bending the panels of another designer who claims that his designs are easy to build but when you look at construction pictures, you see how much his poor builders suffered. :)
Go for the 8 mm.

OK thank you.
I'm going for an 8mm meranti to the hull
however, there is still at home for me birch wbp ,21mm
i can't use this for anything else now and i cut out stringer and transom from it.
I hope I don't have to throw them away and use them.

Dear Jacques!
I received a plywood today.
finally i bought okoume 2500x1220x08 okoume marine plywood.
It’s very light, but it looks strong enough.
this will be a hull.
But I have 21mm and 9mm birch wbp exterior plywood.
Are these good stiffeners, / stringers / and transom?
since these were for me, I would like to use.
your answer thank you.

Hi!
I'd like some help.
I built frames and the bottom of the ship in the middle is perfectly straight, but the transom is up about 3-5mm above the deck level. Does this cause a ready problem?
If I make a point in a level with a transom mark on the deck level, then at the bottom of the ship is a tiny rocker.
at which setting should I stay? or find the middle ground?
I re-measured all sizes three times and each has millimeters accurate, straight, and horizontal.
Thanks for the answers.
Dennis.

Use the baseline as indicated in the plans as your reference point and modify from there.

Thanks Browndog and DEnnis, please see your building notes. I explain clearly what hog and rocker are on page 13 and 14 of the 26 pages, pictures included.
At this point, a little bit of rocker at the transom is perfect to absorb the thickness of the extra layers of glass there.

Even 4mm like I had on my C17 after the glass can be faired out in a days work. Do what you can to keep it fair but anything is fixable at a penalty of weight.

I install braces and I come back showing results.

Hi!
I adjusted the dimensions, put on the bottom panels, and looked straight at with a cross laser. So far, it looks pretty good.
I wonder what it will be like when all the panels are up.

I would have two more questions before I build further:
1. I did not install stringer. If panels fit well, can it stay that way before I put glass on the outside?

2. I let the bow a little longer.( 5cm)
Only the top half as shown in the picture.
I like it better if the chine isn’t too straight
If the panels are standing nicely and it shows a good picture, can I leave it that way?
Or does it have a significant disadvantage?
Thanks for the answers.
