I want to ask for help.
I'm sure many people have asked, I'm sorry if I do it again.
I want to build fs17, -10%
I'm a little in trouble with plywood shopping
Where I live, the following plywood is available:
1. meranti or okume 6mm, but these plates are only 3 layers and that seems pretty weak.
2. birch plywood 6.5mm, it has 5 layers and is quite strong. From this I have already built an fs14 boat and it works very well. It is BFU100 / WBP / glued
3. Meranti or okume plywood is available which is made of 5 ply veneer but they are 8mm thick.
4. Also available pine 6mm thick, waterproof glued.
I would ask what are your opinions, can I build an 8mm meranti? lean enough to build enough fs boats? Or maybe 6mm 3 ply is enough? / Are fewer layers a problem? /
Thanks in advance for the answers.
Dennis.
Question on how you went about reducing the original plans by 10%.

Did you just reduce all the measurements by 10% from the original? Thanks!

Have you seen the "How To's" on this? There are many methods to keep track of it. I remember one builder made a spreadsheet and annotated the changes on the build plans. People successfully use inches to convert but metric conversions are far easier...

Scale all dimensions by 10%, that's all there is to it.
In other words, multiply all dimensions by 0.9.

It is very easy in metric, for example, 610 mm scaled 10% down is
610*0.94=549

In imperial, you must 1st reduce to a decimal unit. That means, if you have 15-3/8" = 15.375" them multiply.

Hi!
I have little time and I am moving slowly.
Since I left the front of the boat a little longer (2.5cm) it became a bit of a powderhorn sheer line. This is not a problem for me, I even like it.

I smeared the whole boat with epoxy based filler primer in 3 coats and sanded this onto a nice straight line.
I then painted off the bottom with two coats of polyurethane paint (ral7035)
I painted varnish roller (sponge roller)

Dear Jacques!
If I build a front deck from bow to frame B, is it enough to do sole from frame B to frame E?
The first deck will be about 25cm high from the sole.
Another question: Is it enough to put fiberglass tape around the sole, or is it better to put glass all over the sole?
I put an openable lid between each frame.
Your answer is thank you. Dennis.

No problem with the front deck.

You must tab the sole all around but fiberglassing the whole width of the sole is an option.

Dear Jacques!
I'm building the ship slowly.
I have a question.
I cut out a few hatch. The size of the middle cutout is 53x36cm. I find it a little big now, maybe I can still cut a new one if you don't think it's good. The cutting edge is about 8cm from the edge of the stringer. Is that right?
The other edge is 14cm from the brace. That I think is definitely enough.

Those hatches are on the large side but with 8cm left over the stringers and frames, the hull will be stiff.
What may not be stiff are the hatch covers. Frame them along the edge and run a batten or two across. That should do the job.

Search this forum for hatches. Our builders have made all kinds of hatches, there are many pictures of hatches on the forum.
