Anyone know anything about Crestliner Boats

Post by kj2008 »

I have found a +/- 17' Crestliner run about. I haven`t had a chance to see it in person yet, so any input would be appreciated. I am looking for a project boat and want to get something solid to work with.

They used to make some fiberglass ones years ago. Back in the 70's I think.

I replaced the floor in one a few years back. Constuction was nothing special, chopper gun stuff, not well encapsulated. If the floor is soft the stringers will likely be rotten, maybe the transom too.

As with all project boats, make sure the motor, trailer, and parts you can strip off it are worth what you pay for it, just in case it's past te point of restoring.

I've got a 1999 1754 0.1 thick aluminum crestliner that was in a previous fire/explosion. NO hull damage. I gutted the boat to the hull, added flotation foam, refinished the deck with Herculiner, camo painted, and put a 50HP Johnson on it which pushes it 28-35mph no problem. 6-8" draft. It's my duck hunting/ bass fishing boat. I have run over tree stumps, rocks, beds, and everything else imaginable (while riding before sunup). So far no hull damage other than a few small scratches in the paint job, which are fixed pretty easily. I am a huge fan of this boat for freshwater and protected waters, but it can't get me to the grouper, snapper, dorado, etc.

It`s at least a 70s model fiberglast boat, maybe even 60` from the styling. Thanks, for the input.
