PH 18 Beginner Builder

Post by Fishstalker »

8) Hey out there!!

I finally got the courage and order the plans for the Ph18. I received them today and I am really syked about it!! My brother-in-law and I are going to be building the boat together.

I already have a question. I have looked over web site again and again and I was just wondering, is it as easy as it looks? I hope so!! Let me know what ya'll think.

Don't know about the PH18 - I'm amazed at myself at how my OD16 is coming out to be a real looking boat!

Hehehe, in that regards I wouldn't advertise it being easy when all those neighbors and friends are amazed! Heheheh 8) - It's waaay cooler to say: "Yep, it's an art and requires obsessive dedication!" ;)

FishStalker,

Where exactly is LaPorte, Texas?

East Texas?

I am in San Antonio, and I'll be starting either a PH18 or an OD18 soon...probably the PH.

Let me know, maybe we can meet up sometime.

Shawn

Hey Shawn,

La Porte is Southeast of Houston. I live 5 minutes from Trinity bay and about 20 minutes from East and West bay near Galveston. By brother-in-law and I do a lot of fishing. We have just started to by material for the PH18. We plan on taking pictures and posting them on this site. My grandmother lives in San Antonio. I love the food there!! Keep in touch and once we start building the boats maybe we could give each other tips and make a trip to check out each others work.

FishStalker,

Sounds good! You can visit here, and I'll buy you some good food...as long as you take me to my favorite place in/near houston...(hint, hint-it's got an aquarium with bass bigger then any I've ever caught...haha).

Well, it's actually in Katy...

Really though, I have $2500 burning a hole in my pocket. I was going to use it as a down payment on a Nitro Bay 1800...but I think I may just use it to build a phantom, like I originally planned.

Let me know when you order your wood, we can compare prices before we buy considering the fact that we are fairly local.

Take care!
Shawn

Shawn,

Oh yes, I know that place well!! My family and I spend alot of time there just messing around. My 5 1/2 year old boy loves watching the bass. As long as you supply the San Antonio Tamles we will go!!

I think that building the boat would be better just because it will give us a since of accomplishment and no boat payment each month is nice too!!

Im working on a deal with one of my paint suppliers to see if they can get me a better price on the epoxy and paint. We have priced the plywood at about $30 a sheet of marine grade. Let me know what the price is there.

See ya!

One and All,

Houston Hardwoods have the best prices that I've found for BS6566 Meranti. 1/4" 22.80. 3/8" 34.00 1/2" 41.00.

To order wood for PH22 and have it sent to Tulsa just under a $952.00

Will order it in a few days as soon as I get Mama home from hostpital.

If you have found something better let me know.!!!

Ritz

PS. Had a good friend around Houston and lost track of him (Long Shot) First name Shane, your initial aren't GSA and have a nick name of Happy

Guys,

A friend of mine works at Zarsky Lumber and he said he will most likely beat anyone's prices, as long as he has access to the material.

I assume that since he is located in Corpus, he should have access to marine plywoods...

I am going to call him tomorrow and give him the above prices that Houston Hardwoods has given you, and see what he says.

I'll let you guys know.

If you dont mind, Email me at S_Queeney@hotmail.com , it's a lot easier to check my email w/out getting caught at work then it is to look at this website, hehe.

Take care
Shawn

Hey Ritz,

Sorry, my initials are SMD. Thats about the prices that we got from them too. Around here the prices are all about the same. I hope Shawn will find some better prices and I would not have a problem making a trip to Corpus to pick it up. Besides the fishing is good there!!

See ya
