Interlux primer with Easypoxy paint?

Post by Kent »

I would like to use Interlux Epoxy Barrier-Kote with Easypoxy paint. Has anyone had any experience with this combination?

Kent, I read somewhere that you don't mix company's paint products.
If your going to use Interlux barrier coat primer you should use Interlux Brightside for the top coat. I have used both and they worked great. the finish is hard as a rock. I'm building a PH16 and painted the outside hull with both. I used a 9 inch 1/8" nap roller cover. I first made sure the epoxy coating was fair and smooth. I sanded the epoxy with 150 grit sandpaper. Next I washed the entire hull with soap and water, let it dry and then wiped it with a de-waxer solvent. Then I applied 3 super thin coats of barrier coat primer sanding between coats with 150 grit sandpaper. Washing it and wiping with acetone between coats.

Then I applied 3 super thin coats of Brightside top coat. I hand sanded with 220 grit between coats, washed it with soap and water and wiped it with acetone.

Just follow the instructions on the back of the paint cans and you can't miss. Make sure you add the solvents they reccomend. It's very important. I think it was 25% solvent for the primer and 10% for the Brightside paint. Good luck.

I forgot to tell you that the primer dry's overnight and the Brightside paint takes 2 days to dry between coats and 8 days to fully cure.
