One of my friends was using my Instant Messenge service the last couple of days. Apparaently someone, possibly from this site, tried to contact me. My friend was, shall we say, less than pleasant and receptive.
My appolgies to the person who tried to contact me. Rest assure, this mistake will not happen in the future.
Regards,
Matt
Appologies
I don't understand what happened but, on that subject, I am thinking of disabling the private message system.
If somebody wants to receive email, he can put his email in his profile.
Be reassured: it is 100% spam proof.
Your personal data is stored in a database. The spam robots and crawlers can not get to it.
My problem with the IM is that we can not forward or save the messages.
If somebody asks a technical question, I can not forward it to Ryan and I can not save it in case we have to know the history of the problem.

To clarify, the person tried contacting me through the MSN Instant Messenger that I had listed in my profile. It was not through a www.bateau2.com private message.
I've never had any sort of spam as a result of using www.bateau2.com.
I'm all for making new contacts in the baot building world. Please don't let this stop anyone from trying again to contact me in the future!

Jacques,
I don't mean to turn this into a "Save the instant message" campaign, but I like the instant message feature. It's given me an opportunity to help other builders with specific questions that might not be of interest to everyone on the board, and without broadcasting my email address. It also saves me from using AOL or any other invasive IM platform. I know the email system allows anonnymity (sp?), but the IM is a nice feature from my stand point. Also, I have complete control over my spam filtering on my email, which is great, but I could accidentally filter messages with all the rules I create.

Not to get "out there" but I was a big fan of IM's quite a few years ago when ICQ first came out. I was a bit skeptical at first so I didn't download it when I first heard about it or I would have had a UIN in the low 500,000's instead my # is 1311875. I made contacts all over the world and loved the file sharing capabilities. The problem is now there are so many services that to have them all installed and running takes up too much time and energy esp. since the spammers have figured out how to mass message, now it's no good to give my ICQ, Yahoo, Aim, MSN, etc. names out cause I never use them...the pm service works great here as well as my drwinsac@excite mail acct. (which gets less spam then my primary mail from my isp). I love this message board and between it and the few other online communities I visit I know as much of the global community as I care to.
