need a little info

Post by jotter »

Hello guys, I'm not sure if any of you remember me. dukydo? I tried getting on but the bugger wouldn't remember my password. Or better yet I couldn't. Anyway I tried and tried and even did the new password thing with no luck. The reason I'm here is because I need to know where id the best place to find a working "Power trim/tilt for a 1974 115 HP Mercury Outboard motor. I know this has nothing to do with plans or nuttin, but I'm desperate. Please any help would be appreciated.

its been a year or two, but yes I certainly do remember you :)

I would look at E-Bay first, and Im not sure I would look anywhere else.

You can also try nationwide searches of craigslist using a site like http://www.crazedlist.org/

... and for that, you owe the forum one picture of your current project... :)

@ Shine. Thanks for your suggestions Shine. I have already searched ebay but nobody has a unit that old. Did I mention its a 1974 115 HP Mercury outboard?
@ Ks8. No pictures yet but my current project is a factory build. I couldn't afford to pass it up. Are you ready for this? Are you sitting down? I noticed a boat out in the country that hadn't moved in several years so I stopped and ask if it was for sale. Long story short... it was for sale. The guy who owned it died several years ago and his son doesn't know that much about boats and he felt guilty selling it so it just sat there. The sons wife finally talked him into selling it. It is a 21foot 1974 Holiday StarCraft and came with everything a guy needs to fish the Great Lakes. Downriggers, 8 rods, VHF radio, anchors, compass, net, extra props, and the list goes on and on. But here is the sweet part. I got it for 100 bucks. YUP, one hundred bucks. The seats need rebuilding and some other cosmedic stuff, but the floor is solid. It sat in the sun for all those yrs. but was shaded by some trees. I'm going to be on Lake MI. next summer if my health holds out... God willing. The engine purrrrs. :)
I wish I could get back on the forum under my old "dukydo" moniker.

Thanks Shine and Ks8. Hope to find that power trim soon.
Ks8, as for my present project..... I'm working on a boat I purchased about a week ago. I saw a boat out in the country that hasn't moved in a few years, so I went and asked about it. Turns out the owner died several yrs ago and his son didn't have the heart to sell it and he was intimidated by the boat so there it sat. After the guy and his wife had a little pow wow I got a 1974 21 foot Holiday Starcraft with a 115 HP mercurey outboard (runs). Seats need rebuilding but.... It came with everything it takes to fish the Great Lakes for Salmon and Trout. ie. Downriggers, 8 rods, compass, VHF radio, anchors, extra props, bimini top, the floor is solid too.
Anyway I couldn't pass up the price we settled on. I picked it all up for $100.00. Yup one hundred dollars. But I need the power trim as its a little tough wrestling with that big engine out in the water. So if you hear of one....
ps pictures soon.....I hope.

You got a pic of that motor? My neighbor has an old 115 Merc with power trim/tilt I could go ask him if yours looks like the same model in the next couple days if you like.

Gotta love that tower of power!

And I thought I got a good deal, mine has a CMC tilt on it, it's in the process of being rebuilt right now (the tilt) but I did find a used CMC tilt for $200 on craigs list, might be another avenue for you.
