Re: D15 in Katy TX
Sorry to hear about the oops situation. Routers don't really bother me much, but I still get the cold sweats running my table saw. I broke two ribs as a teenager running my Dad's table saw and to this day it still takes me a while to get comfortable when running one

Previous builds: FL14, NC16, and others...
Current build: FL14 (+10%)

Re: D15 in Katy TX
Got back in the saddle last night. With a fence, feather board and push stick I am happy to report that no router incidents occured. I now have four fairig boards. I bought 2 3/4" and 4 1/4" sticky back sand paper so I made a 1/4" and 1/2" ply board in each width. The boards are 24" long, which covers the widest area on the boat plus a few inches.
I was contemplating puting the thin craft foam on the boards as a cushion. Anyone think this would be an improvement in performance? Might just try without and if dissatisfied change one up as a test.
Quick fair, primer and paint should arrive tomorrow and sand paper is due on Monday. Excited!

Got the first coat of fairing on the bottom this morning before the kids were up. Plan to do the sides later today. Then it's sand, sand, sand...

Well, spring is here. I finally fnished sanding the first coat of fairing and applied a second coat. It was good to make some progress, after so many months. Hope to start chipping away at the hull and get her done.
Would love to take a finished boat to the Texas get together...

Hi guys! Been a while.
Been doing a lot of long board sanding today. I can officially say I hate this part... Anyone of you guys love fairing and sanding?
Still probably need 2 passes of fairing, but I'm going to start with the quick fair on the next pass. Sure hope that sands faster.

You didn't say what grit sandpaper you're using, it should be something really rough- 40x or 60x would be appropriate at this stage- you're establishing shape. Once you get close to fair, then think about smooth.

I'm using 36 and 40. I am on the last side of the boat for sanding for this round. Then I will apply some quick fair. I think after the quick fair, I will be close to having everything even. A few spots will definitely need another pass.
Feels good to make some progress.

Once you start sanding the quick fair you're going to be kicking yourself you didn't use it earlier. I did.
Btw, I'm only a few exits east of you off I10 If you ever need a hand. You know, once you're done fairing.
