cheap canoe weight
What is the lightest practical weight that the Cheap Canoe can be built?
Re: cheap canoe weight
I don't know about lightest, but mine came in at 35 lbs. If I was doing it all over again I might be able to take off a pound.

35 pounds is VERY good. My shortened version came in at 40.

1/4" Okoume for the hull and white pine for the rubrails. I also made the fillets as thin as possible (just enough to support the glass without bubbles).

Two sheets of ¼" okoume weigh ~40 lb. Since the Cheapie is rather short there is a fair amount of scrap. Keeping the weight low depends on controlling epoxy usage and the type and amount of wood used to trim the hull out.
My Cheapie came in at 45 lb. but it is one inch deeper than called for and has oak for breasthooks, hard maple for wales and a hardwood carrying yoke. Plus I went a little heavy on the fillets due to inexperience.
