NC16 in Wyoming

Post by gstanfield »

Well, I was all set to move back to GA when Ireceived a huge promotion (second big one in a year and a half) so now I'm committed to WY for a while longer. The bad part was that I sold off my half finished drift boat, my skiff and my plastic canoe. With the river just a couple miles away I decided to toss together a NC16 to get me by for now while I start another drift boat project. I found some halfway decent wood local, and I'll be glassing it completely so this one should last pretty good.

It's nothing fancy, just a NC16, but I'll toss some pics in and then I have an idea for a really interesting blog when it is finished. For now, here's today's progress:

Thanks gents. I've built a couple of boats in my time away from here, but they were from other designers. I tend to bounce around a little :D

Hmmmmm, North Carolina 16...I like it 8)

Larry, I'll make it back to GA eventually. It won't be soon because my promotion to Lieutenant required a commitment at least through the next election cycle of our sheriff so that's three more years away. I will however be back in GA for three weeks in August this year to do some fishing and see my kid brother get married. While I'm there I plan on taking the family down the coast so hopefully I'll finally meet you this summer.

Not much progress the last few weeks, shot in three different competitons out of the last four weeks. My one weekend off was spent on the garden. Since it's raining like crazy and I didn't really want to build fence in the rain I decided today was a good day to lay some glass on the outside of the hull. 8)

Since I would like this one to last a little while I decided to go ahead and glass the whole thing, inside and out. For the outside I used some 10oz woven I had leftover from the driftboat project. The inside will get some 6oz and then either spray in bedliner or kiwigrip or .... I dunno.

For now though, here's the outside with the 10oz cloth wet out and drying :D

(yes, the shop is a total mess as usual!)
