Pontoon Cat 22 Hp
In the study plans for the pontoon cat 22 the max horsepower is 75. Would it be possible to go with a 150 or higher?
Re: Pontoon Cat 22 Hp
Why?
The boat will not go much faster, you will have to reinforce the transom and the trim will be bad.
The ideal engine is 50 HP.

What is the top speed with a 50 HP engine? Would I be able to pull a tube with that engine?
Im new to boating and I really like the look of the Pontoon Cat! I have 3 small children so the large deck option really appeals to me! I would also like to be able to pull a tube!

Speed will depend on the load but on average, the boat will go about 15 mph with a 50.
Except for some monster tri-pontoons, that's about as fast as they go: top 18 to 20 mph, cruise at 15.

For reference, I would pull my young ones around in the tube at about 18 - 20. Your not going to impress any teens with that speed, but the younger ones like it.
I did meet a guy with a tri-tube and a 250 or 300 on the back, he could do about 45 in it, but I can't imagine what the fuel bill was like.

You should be able to pull with a 75, borderline with a 50 HP.

Re: Pontoon Cat 22 Hp
Thanks Jacquesmm and AMC! I think that is a good cruising speed for what I need! I just want something to cruise around on the reservoirs here in Idaho and teaching my kids how to fish! My kids are small so its just what I need. Maybe when they get older we will look at building another Bateau that will go a little faster !!!!!!!!
I looking at purchasing the plans in a few weeks! I just need to decide if I want a 20ft or 22ft, and what size I want the beam to be!
If I understand the the study plans correctly, you go anywhere from 8' 6" to 10' correct?

You can have any beam you want between 8 and 10' by adjusting the length of the cross beams.

I would contact the DMV about trailer width limits in Idaho. I can't imagine it being a problem at 10 feet, but I'd still check.
