I don't know about Idaho but here in Florida, the standard max. beam is 8' 6" and it's the same in all the contiental US expect one state, can't remember which one.
In Florida, you can get a permit for up 9 or 10', I think it's 10, for about $ 10.00 a year. You have to put a "wide load" sign on the trailer.
Above that you need a permit for each travel, escort car etc. but 10' is not a big deal.

10 is not that bad but I don't want to have to worry about a "wide load" sign!
