Did you tape the seems or are you relying on the cloth over all to do the job? I only used 4 oz on mine, and it seems to add a degree of toughness that helps.

Looks good

I did not tape the seams on the outside, just the inside. I figured the 12 oz tape on the inside and 10oz cloth on the outside should be plenty strong enough.

Thanks,
George

Sounds similar to what I did, I did overlap the 4 oz at the seems, so all the seems have two layers on the outside (3 or 4 at the corners), and then the tape on the inside. I would almost bet, that it would hold together with just the fillet material, if sealed properly, that is tough, hard stuff.

There will be some splashing this week! I kinda lapsed on the build thread, but it's built a little heavy, 10oz glass inside and out. It's still easy for two people to carry, but a little heavy for one guy to move more than a few yards.

Next is to paint the bottom and see how she floats. The inside is already painted battelship grey and the bottom would have been, but there was a mixup with the paint.....

She floats!

This morning we loaded up and drove down to Glendo Reservoir to play at the "beach" and test out the NC16. It was a nice sunny day, temp in the upper 70's to low 80's and a gentle breeze blowing through about 10mph. My folks are in town from GA so I have plenty of pictures. My Dad has always been a shutterbug, but since getting a digital it's gotten worse. The upside is I have plenty of pics of anything we do together!

She's an easy carry to the water, but then again I'd hope a simple canoe could be carried a hundred yards by two grown men!

...and she touches water for the first time...

First a test paddle with just me, don't want to put the kids in danger if it's terribly unstable...

Image

Stable and good paddling, not bad for such a simple design...
Image

..and now the kids all get a turn...

With rave reviews from the whole crew I even manage to talk Steph into going out for a paddle.

All in all, I'm quite happy with the finished product as well as the simple, yet effective design.

Thanks,
George
