VG23 clear coated topsides?

I've just puchased the plans for the V12 in order to get to know the S&G technique. I intend to move on from there to the VG23 and have some thoughts on the paint scheme. In line with traditional local fishing boats, I'm thinking of a matt dark grey (or black) hull with clear coated top sides. However, I don't know if the topsides are fibre glassed and if so, with how many layers. If they are, would my idea still be feasable? I don't mind if you can see the fibre glass structure a bit from 2 feet away, but it shouldn't be obvious from several yards away.

Everything is fiberglassed and in a boat the size of the VG23, there are too many layers to have wood finish.
You can always apply a fake teak veneer like Plasteak. It lats longer than real teak, less maintenance, is lighter and from 1 meter away nobody can tell the difference.
