Fast Skiff 14 California

Post by Prowl »

Well, here´s my first post. I think that writing about my experience is a little harder and more...mundane a task than I would want. I´d really like to be out in the garage, sanding on that hull, feeling the pulse of that sander going through my arm and losing myself in thought of how this boat will end up. Yes, this is my first build and I definitely caught the bug! I have plans for an N7 on hand and the plans for my big project, a Panga 25C on the way from Florida. I have learned a lot from my first build and have yet much more to learn as I take on more projects. I thought this would be "Easy" as I think of myself as semi-proficient at wood working. Well, boat building, I´ve learned, is much more than just cutting some wood and throwing some fiberglass and epoxy on it. I liken it to being a master of many disciplines, patience being the greatest, followed closely by attention to detail. Well, here it is, my 14 footer, I´m proud of her.

90 percent done, 90 percent to go!

Well, a little progress this last weekend. I still have some work left to do but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter!

She's looking good. Keep the pics coming. What size motor will you run on her and what type of waters will you fish her in. John

I´m going to start with an Evinrude 2 stroke 15hp and give her a test at the local lake but I´m looking for a Honda 25 for some saltwater fishing. Don´t tell anyone but I´m going to make the run out to Catalina island, around 23 miles offshore. I´ll do it on a calm day but that´s the goal. There´s an awesome little beach called Parsons landing that I would love to camp on at the Island and it´s only accessible by small boat.

That's a heck of a ride! 8O I use to dive off of Catalina and the ride on a larger boat with a lot more motor seem to take a while. Make sure you have a float plan and make a call when you get to the island.

Looks good so far. Good luck on both adventures!

It´s done! Well, close enough. I splashed her today and had a blast, although I need to make some adjustments. Thanks, Jacques, you create awesome boats!

The rest of the pics are in my album!
