83 wellcraft rebuild

Post by Hollabelle »

we recently bought a 1983 wellcraft v-20 fisherman, it had a soft floor and some spider cracks at the transom, I talked him into removing the cap to fix the floor, which is plywood sandwiched between glass, so we could cut the bottom glass and leave the deck. after removing the cap there is rot in the transom and in a couple of cross braces and one stringer. was wondering if it is possible to cut the top of the glass at the cross braces slide new ones in with lots of putty and just reglass the top? and we need to figure out the transom, what materials are needed and how to put the curve in it. also the gas tank is foamed in and I was wondering if this was good, some foam had been replaced before and it was all waterlogged.

It sounds like it needs to be rebuilt.

Im not sure what you mean by "cross brace" , perhaps you mean "frame" perhaps not :help: We need pictures. Anyway, you cant do it that way and know that they will do their job.

what materials are needed and how to put the curve in it.
what curve? Post pictures and also measurements of the thickness of everything (thickness of core, thickness of inside glass skin and outside glass skin) - then we can tell exactly what you need and what order to put them back in.
also the gas tank is foamed in and I was wondering if this was good, some foam had been replaced before and it was all waterlogged.
Not good, unless it was coated with epoxy first (not likely on a 80's boat) almost certainly there is pitting and maybe holes in that tank if it has been in direct contact with wet foam. You need to pull it out, it might be repairable/usable.

We REALLY need pictures to be of much help

Let me see if I can find my camera to take some pics for you, i lost the charger the found the charger but lost the camera. The boat is on hold waiting for the weather to cooperate, but we do have the cap off and the gas tank out, the gas tank actually looks okay and had good gas in it.
