Installation of Trim Tabs - OD 16

Post by Jason »

I completed my OD 16 this past summer and have purchased some Lenco trim tabs to install. There are Numerous screws which will be used to secure the tabs to the transom naturally below the water line. Will 5200 seal the wood where the screws are drilled in or should I use epoxy. My major concern is for the potential of ROT due to the number of holes that will be drilled below the water line. Please advise with comments.

I sealed the below water screw holes with 5200 on my OD16. It works well.

Other options are
1 mark screw hole locations
2 drill them out larger than screw size
3 fill hole with epoxy putty and let cure
4 remark location and mount with screws

or

glue wood mounting plates onto transon so screw holes will never go into transom

These steps are extra work but you´ll never have to worry about water damage in hull material.
