Hardtop for T-top - adapting canvas top to fit hardtop

Post by tech_support »

A local customer built this with our materials and advise.

I happen to see him today and he invited me over to see his work - very impressive 8)

It is H45 divinycell, with a shaped edge (doubled up thickness), then he built the speaker/electric box separate and glassed it underneath. paint is sterling. He chopped the top off and had a plate welded to the stubs, there is a matching backing plate on the topside - so the top is secured well and over a large area (no compression problems).

He said the top weight about 35 lbs :)

Hi Joel, that looks great - is that frame powder coated aluminium or composite frame?

its the original aluminum t-top frame. He cut the aluminum canvas framing off the uprights, then welded on the flat base, then had it powder coated.

Joel,
With those plates top and bottom is there any need for high density core inserts at the mounting points?

If the plates are large enough, no. I would still drill out the hole bigger and fill/re-drill
