I saw that on our local news, it's on every channel.
The boat driver surely didn't have the gain set right or something
Distracted and going too fast maybe
Not trying to take up for the guy but the fog has been ridiculous for a few days.
The Tampa Port has been shut down for cargo and cruise ships, they rarely do that.
Sometimes you can't see the bow of your own 20' boat this time of year...

Why would you go that fast in the fog anyway?

But then there really isn't any reason to be going that fast.

One of the biggest reasons I got my bigger boat was so that I could put radar on it. I got caught in the fog once coming into Long Beach CA, very busy container port. It scared the daylights out of me. Go slow and you can get run over, go fast and you can hit a ship. Neither sounds good.

A clear violation of Colregs rule 6. There is no excuse for this and if this guy has a commercial license it should be revoked. He's very lucky no one was killed.

Yep, idiots like this are the same ones that cause 80 car pileups on the interstate to.

From local news channel 9...
According to the FWC, fog was a factor when Matthew Santiago, 31, became unaware of his surroundings and crashed the boat into the eatery. FWC officials said Santiago may have been traveling at 30 to 40 mph at the time of the crash. Santiago was cited in the crash.

Now that the facts are coming out, I totally agree. The captain does indeed have a commercial license.
The local news said this was his 6th citation...

That'll buff right out. Not sure about the bar though. Might be a good place for one of Peter's transom tables  Can't fix stupid.
