Rise transom for 25mm at GF16 -how to do?

Hello Jaques,

the glassing job is done. Both sides 10cm down 2 layer of 450gr +/-45° biax and 2 layer of 100gr fabric in one shot - maybe overkill - but I like to have a safety feeling.

To glass in one shot was very easy with a fast hardener. First I satured the sanded area, waited until the thing was sticky and layed after the first layer biax. Wet it out and then repeated the same.

I took alltogether about 4,5 hours and 8 cups to mix the epoxy because of the fast hardener -I used about 30gr Epoxy a time .

BTW, my transom was built from the begining with an additional clamping board - it means the transom is 5cm thick....now a few mm more .

Well, the next step ist to shape the edges and to give a light sanding to fair the whole thing - sanding is a job I don't like

Looks good Bernd. I went with one layer of biax on mine. All the engine mounting points are well below the riser on mine like Jacques said.

As designed, the transom edge is exactly at 20" above the bottom.
You are not the first one that adds a small filler there. there must be something that leads to an error.
It must be the way we draw that curve.
I am going to add a dimension in the middle.

I knew that about small engines: I ahd a Nissan at 16", a Honda at 16.5 and now I have a Yamaha 4HP at 17" but I expect all largr engines (20+) to stick to the industry standard.
The problem of non-standard shaft length happens up to 25HP, the kind of engine frequently used on the GF16.
I will add page to the notes. If the builder does not own an engine at the time of the building, he should cut the transom for a 25" and adjust later. It is easier to cut than to build up.
