Re: 25 Sea Vee Inboard cap recore
I just read up on aqua plas ans silvertip adhesive. Seems to me that I should make a template of the underside of the gunnel that I want to strengthen and cut out a piece of HD plywood. I hot coat one side of it and then glue it onto place with the adhesive. Then I glass the bottom of it and marry it in nice tabbing it in with the rest of the underside of the gunnel. Then I just redrill the rod holder holes. The aqua plas stuf sounds great, but why spend when I already have a lot of HD plywood around. I now think I understand what you were talking about cutting the cap. The weak point would be where you put it back on the hull and join it back up.

So I cut out a piece of this aquaplast stuff that fits the underside of the gunnel that I want to reinforce. Do I then glass one side of it and then glue it to the underside of the gunnel. Then glass the bottom side all using epoxy? I do have access to this area. I will post pictures before I do this so you guys can visualize what I am trying to work with.

Marine ply or Aquaplas will work but it has to be generously covered with several layers of fiberglass on each side and that fiberglass must extend over the solid parts of the gunwale.
I try to guess how all this looks.
The idea of removing part of the gunwale was good in the sense that you can build a strong gunwale away form the boat but the problem of fiberglassing on the ceiling still exist when you put that part back on the boat.
The boat is too big to be rolled on it's side. . .

That link says that posting pics is a 2 step process. I say that it is a 3 step process; upload first, resize to 640x480 pixels, then copy an paste the URL. Make sure that you copy the full sized pic, not the thumbnail. (We want to see large pics, not small ones)

It doesn't seem to have worked. I posted the pics in the gallery on this site. If any of you computer people can, transfer over so all can see. I just need to know a few tings. 1. Should I glass the inside of the hull to the cap top while I am in there? What sealant should I use on the outside lip for the cap before putting the rub rail back on?
