Long term storage of epoxy

Post by wej »

What are the most optimum conditions to prolong the shelf life of marine epoxy sold here? I have several gallons left from a bug job and no projects til fall at the earliest and most likely next spring. Thank you.

Try to keep it from freezing, and even that doesn't seem to really hurt it. It's good for years.

Like Larry said it can last for years. I keep mine in a heated but cool shop and I do not think it ever goes bad. I had some System3 in 5 gallon jugs that was 25 years old and it still worked just fine. The bottom third of the resin was crystallized and hard. I heated up a big tub of water to around 150 and set the jugs in it until it cooled off. I had to do that about three times but I think I got about 95% use. The boat has been in use for 3 years now with no problems so it must have worked :D

Thank you fellas!

I ordered way too much for a fiberglass job hoping I would have enough for a good start on a boat! Looks like 6 gallons total, not bad to get started!

Be very careful!
I found this site and that is how I learned my old System 3 could be saved and used. I had 15 gallons of the stuff so I ordered some boat plans and the next thing I know BBV has returned in a big way :help:  :D

My shop is still just a concrete slab, turning all my income back into the farm at the moment, next year should start to show the effort in increased income.....fingers crossed!
