transom replacement

Post by mulltr66 »

When replacing a transom from the inside:

Should I do tabbing from the plywood onto the Hull and sides AND overlap the new inside fiberglass skins onto the sides and Hull as well?

My concern is doing the inside skin with one piece extending out both the sides and bottom in the same piece would be difficult. 1708 seems difficult to bend. Maybe I would need to use another type of mat.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

You will want to do a fillet in any gape between the core, and the hull, tape over that with 1-2 layers of 12 oz tape to tab it in, and then lay up your wide glass. Overlapping isn't necessary, but 2-3 inches won't hurt either, The cut ends of the 1708 will be more pliable when wet out than the rest of the cloth. Of course all this depends on your transom dimensions.
