Re: Sintes 21 Rebuild
With all the over laps on the inside of the bracket glass there was no way to have an even surface to bed the plywood to on the bottom and sides. So my solution was to cut the plywood into strips and bed each one in wood glue. I am sure I used extra material doing it this way but I got good bonding and that is what counts.

Only because I'm slow...
How'd you keep the strips level/straight to the desired plane?

Crude.............put down a pretty thick layer of glue and then wiggle each piece down to get good contact. After all the wood was in I placed a couple of 2x4s over them and put weight on the 2xs. For the sides I just drilled a few holes in the glass and used 2x4s and screws to pull things in good. Like I say crude but it worked

Re: Sintes 21 Rebuild
Whew. That's what I was thinking of as a solution to my own question. Glad to see I'm thinking "right" on how to solve things like that.
The other question that I don't seem to have an answer for in my head is why you ran the strips longitudinally and not transversely. If I understand how you plan to extend the stringers, wouldn't transverse strips distributed any force between the bracket and the stringers across the length of the strip vs just the width of a strip?

Thanks for your question. To tell the truth I guess I did not think it through as well as I should haveJaysen wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2017 8:08 am Whew. That's what I was thinking of as a solution to my own question. Glad to see I'm thinking "right" on how to solve things like that.

Re: Sintes 21 Rebuild
I was thinking "the stringers handle thrust load" leaving the bracket bottom to deal with bouancy and wave loads. I'm sure it's not as critical as we are thinking.
Rum acquired. It's 70+ here. I'm rethinking the visit until "global warming" gets a better foothold up there.

Maybe I will have Richard go visit your MRS and take the choice out of your hands

Probably should add he loves Alaska and might get her excited to come see this place.

Re: Sintes 21 Rebuild
Nothing picture worthy today. Just laid some glass in the bracket getting ready to install the stringers. I have been pondering, could be bad I know, about the tie in of the new to old stringers. I am thinking of cutting the old stringers back at a 45 degree angle. The long part on top, short part next to the hull. My thought is it would act sort of like a key way and lock the new stringers in even better. Anyone have thoughts.

Re: Sintes 21 Rebuild
didn't you say the stringers are under 3/4" FG and the wood is just ... there? why not just removed the stringer say 4-5 inches and just use the FG as a connecting sleeve?

Re: Sintes 21 Rebuild
I don't know how good my counselling skills are but I highly recommend a summer Alaska Vacation.
We are all booked and ready to go in August.
This will be my 4th trip, I absolutely love it up there. The fishing is fantastic and the weather is nice.
I also need to add that the folks are very friendly and super tolerant of us tourists
