Re: GV15 Build

I am at the point where the build departs from the plans and becomes my custom layout. Problem is that most of the decisions need to be made in advance because of weight distribution, space requirements, etc. It's a lot harder than going to the dealership and picking between 4 or 5 models. Not only do I need to decide on a general layout, I need to identify the precise components, their weight, and location. I'm leaning towards a "flats" style layout with a large deck area fore and aft. The edge of the aft deck will serve as a bench seat for 3 passengers and the console seat will take care of a fourth. This layout allows for a lot of dry storage and live wells but a pretty small cockpit. I would attempt to put my fuel tank all the way forward to offset weight of deck and storage aft. I would attempt to place the batterie(s) under the console for the same reason. Arms and moments will give the final answer but I have sizes, weights, and locations on everything before I can calculate. WoW! Lots of respect for Jacques. My build is a pipsqueak and I'm floundering. Gotta appreciate getting it right on 30' sail.
I understand that this part is a personal choice but would like to say that opinions are welcome and encouraged. I would love to what others have done as well as what you might have done differently. Just one good idea could make a world of difference.
I roughed out a center console and laid the floor and deck boards in place. I've got to get the major components placed so I can run the rigging tubes and finish the frames. Here I what it looks like today.

Boat looks really good :!: The nice part of building your own boat is you can do what you want. The bad part is knowing what you want  I totally understand as I have been going in circles with my build for the past month or so.

I had the opportunity to see this beauty the other day, thanks Ken! He is doing a fabulous job and it is absolutely beautiful. I love the size and the way he is thinking of laying it out. I can't wait to see it come together

Thanks Cedarock. I wouldn't even have known about the site if you hadn't put me on it. Even then I probably wouldn't have started a build if you hadn't shared your knowledge from your 3 builds. You may not be doing the cooking on this one but you definitely started the fire. :)

I will only say that your use of a mock-up in the planning stage is very wise. 8)
