At that point I can/could install keel/skigg, question is do I need it?
I would rather run more tape down the center line.

Re: FS14 Keel Skigg Do I need it?
If memory serves the keel runner is not for protection, it's for proper tracking and performance. Some guys do 2 smaller ones instead of the larger down the middle.
Built: 15ft Skiff, 16ft Skiff, Modified Cheap Canoe, and an FS17.
Re: FS14 Keel Skigg Do I need it?
The skig is only a 1" x 1" x 96". Not much there! I think on the FS14 it's for protection. ??
Re: FS14 Keel Skigg Do I need it?
I'm willing to bet it needs to be there for tracking.
Re: FS14 Keel Skigg Do I need it?
Capt UB, Eric is correct but we do have several builders who has decided not to add!! Up to you, Jeff
Re: FS14 Keel Skigg Do I need it?
It's for protection and to improve tracking but you will loose a little bit of top speed.
For those who plan to use small engine and/or sail in strong winds, I recommend it.
In all other cases, you can do without it.

I will be using a 9.8-15 hp on the FS14, just don't plan on doing any sailing....
Thank you, Bob.

To me sailing includes moving around with a boat whatever the power but it must be a literal translation from Dutch or French. Let's say rowing.

Mine doesn't have a skeg.. and it slides quite a bit when turning... if i were to build another id install a skeg
Re: FS14 Keel Skigg Do I need it?
Do you have a photo of the transom showing the bottom of the boat and ob cav. plate?
Do you have the cav. plate inline with the bottom of the boat?
I think I read you had a Tohatsu 20, about 95 lbs. Are you running with foil on the ob?
Is it a long shaft?
And were are your build photo's????? No photos!
