What I found is that you can pry it loose if it is not a great bound to start. I would cut the tabbing loose at the base of the stringer leaving only the vertical portion as I think you describe. Then see what prys loose. Then grind to the hull and retab. You should going the gelcoat off the strings before you tab them back in for the best bond.

Couldn't pry anything loose, but without confidence in the integrity, ground out one side before needing to replace the backup pad on my grinder. 2nd session mid-week. Grinding it out back to old battery housing and hacking the front side of that out leaving the backside to complement some future bulkhead plans... Between the transom and battery housing is solid and partially repaired from when the transom was recored. I need to research lamination schedules and figured out epoxy cure temperature bounds... in 30s here and no heater in the place yet. Potentially Marinpoxy / fast hardener awaiting 40s temp. Thanks again for the help... first venture of this scope... reassurance is very appreciated.
