Looking good Reid!

Reid, she is looking great.
I saw the skeg, just wanted to know what it's made of?

Capt UB,
The skeg is a very high density foam. I couldn't even tell you what kind or manufacturer. We had this piece sitting around the shop and I thought it might work well. Turns out it did!

Sanded the rails that I sharpened up the other day. They came out really nice!!! I have to be careful now when I walk around the hull that I don't cut myself!
The photo is from the transom looking towards the bow on the starboard side. I did this on the transom edge and then up approx. 7 feet on each side.

Reid, That looks nice! I would knock the edge off a little bit though.
I did on mine for two reasons. One, They paint better and two, I was concerned with cutting my line when a fish goes under the boat.

Reid agree with Eric. Those sharp edges will not hold paint, round them over a little.

What did you use to build it up with? Fairing or peanut butter?
Re: FS18 Straight Sheer, Round Chine
Thank you for the feedback guys! I will knock those edges down a little. Never thought of the fishing line issue, good call!!!
I used Quick Fair and then came back over it with some MarinEpoxy thickened with Silica.

Re: FS18 Straight Sheer, Round Chine
The experts may weigh in on this, but I used blended filler and epoxy on my first build to build up the edges. when I flipped it over after paint, one of the edges kind of crushed in when I set it down on a piece of wood. On my second build I used wood flour and epoxy. It was much better in my opinion. I rub the edge on oyster bars all the time with no issues.

Re: FS18 Straight Sheer, Round Chine
Silica would have been even harder than wood flour . harder and smoother.
