I haven't been posting but have made progress on this little guy. Spent too much time fairing the bottom, but it's done. Topsides are now faired nearly well enough. Above is the last section of rubrail epoxied in. I found a 10 foot piece of 1 by 4 pine left over from something and used it to piece together this little rail.
One tip I got from the Chesapeak Light Craft guy at the Port A boat show was regarding fillets. You wait an hour (I didn't always need that long) and use Denatured alcohol on your fingers to smooth out the fillets. Works great, like using neat epoxy but much easier. I tried it on fairing mixes (Bateau's marinepoxy with their fairing mix, with microballoons, and left over Quickfair. Worked on all of it and made smoothing out the fairing in places easier. Smoothed out pinholes as well.
The seat is cut out---it's a simple rectangle that's a bit wider than the hull at the bottom and presses down with with a curve when glued in. It's not in the above pic yet, it goes right over that center butt block. Clever design that adds some tension/camber support midships where you sit. Getting closer to priming with this fun build. So far it's all left over scrap from previous builds over the years. Only thing I've bought is a gallon kit of marinepoxy, which is about gone. Gotta think about paint.
