Suggest you go to the mirror and cuss out the silly bastard that overbuilt to 5/8" solid glass.
Currently building Jacques Mertens ST21 "Skinnydip". Boating adventures: Splash testing and using 'Skinnydip, as a basis of further building refinement; Adams 44’ sailing sloop "Great Sandy" (cruising and maintaining); Iain Oughtred Feather Pram "Mini Dip" (building); Jacques Mertens R13 "Wood Duck" (built and due for maintenance).

The sad part is I know the bottom is a bunch thicker. There is enough glass in this hull to have built at least two hulls :help: Starting to wonder just how much HP it is going to take to move this pig.

On another front I foolishly thought spring was here. I should have known better because the geese have not showed up yet. Those kids are the best weather forecasters ever, they are never wrong :!: So this morning it is blowing about 30mph and snowing to beat the band

Those glass plugs look great, the perfect thickness. :D
That means the gas tank vent I sent you will work.
What was the diameter of the plugs?
I'm about out of salmon and it's getting too dang hot already.
We are booked and heading your way not soon enough.
Full disclosure, I think I like cold weather more than you.

I used a 2 3/8 hole saw to cut the holes. This will let me use 2 inch plugs in the scuppers.
I sure wish I had taken the time to float test the hull last fall. Given how heavy this pig is I am wondering if the scuppers will be below the water line. They are a little over 7 inches above the chines. My math is telling me it is going to be close.
About now I am sure you like cold weather better than me. It snowed here all day and here I was dreaming of spring. If you run out of salmon and go into withdraws drop me a line.

As far as I know all of Dave Sintes designs were based off of using C-flex. You get a solid glass hull and the thickness depends on the builder. I did not get a lamination schedule with the frame kits I bought. I just did what felt right at the time. Clearly I overbuilt this hull by just a tad

I have been wondering about building a hull with solid glass bottom and everything else cored. Just thinking but not really planning at this point.

Back when you could buy top quality resin for under $500 a drum how much you used was not such a big deal. A lot of thinking still ran to thicker is better. Fuel was cheap then too

All this talk about being averse to warmer climes. What happened to the snowbird idea?
