GV11 transom knees question
Evan or Jacques,

Because of the modifications I made to my transom on the GV11, I´m wondering if the transom knees could be deleted. I´ve attached a few photos to illustrate. There are three layers of tape on the transom corners, with a 1x6 epoxy glued to the transom. The 1x6 is glued and taped to the transom and the aft compartment tops. The aft compartment tops are also taped to the transom (behind the 1x6). The vertical sides of the compartments, which are also the transom braces, are glued and taped on both sides. My thoughts are that the compartment tops, being only 5 1/2" below the top of the transom, will act as knees. They are made of 3/8" plywood. Hopefully the photos will make this all clear. Thanks.

Doug

Evan is somewhere on the road and may not see this but IMHO, you can omit the knees. That boat looks very strong the way it is.

Your humble opinion is good enough for me. I think the boat will look better without the knees. Thanks.

GV11 transom knees question
After an epic 6 week journey across Canada with a 1 year old baby, a 20 lb cat, and a 2000# trailer of stuff, we have arrived back in Vancouver! A fun trip though.

On to your question: Yes, you can safely leave out the transom knees as Jaques has indicated. It looks like your compartments are just as strong as knees.

Evan Gatehouse

Yes, I worked for Farr Yacht Design doing a lot of the drawings and some small structure bits for Oracle-BMW.

Paul Bieker, a very good International 14 designer did a lot of the structures, as did Russell Bowler, the VP at Farr Yacht Design.

(I also got a few rides on one of the AC boats they bought from Paul Cayards old syndicate)

Evan
