No matter how I do the math... The center console is still the best way to store the fuel tank, 3 or 6 gals portable.

I have a 50hp four stroke Merc on a 16' Lund. i fill it the 12 gallon tank often.

A 3 gallon tank would suck.

3 gal tank is for the 9.8 4 stroke I have on the SandPiper FS14. I will be using that OB on the LM18 untill I find a 15 to run. 3 gals was just right for the FS14 I built.

Need to get back to building the center console grab bar setup. It never seams end sometimes!

If you already have one 3 gallon tank then why not just get a second one to use on the LM18? Then if you need to make longer runs you can double up the tanks in that boat.

I have a 6 gal that will go under the console.

Now that the frames are glassed in, I'm able to measure for a tank that will fit between frame A and B. I just can't install a tank that way because of the fill hose and deck fitting. There is no room and a custom tank that would work is too much. So I'm back to the console with a seat, grab bar and open space under for 6 gal tank.

Check out my build , I had a 15 gallon tank made for my boat. The fill cap is flush to the deck. Nice to see another flyfisherman here. Where are you located?

Going with the console, not enough room to do custom $$$.

I'm in Central Florida, 25 miles west of Daytona Beach. Not too far from Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River and NSB back bay area.
