Panga 22 or PH22 -- help!

Post by redfishla »

The next boat is to be started in the spring of 2005. My wife's buying me a set of plans for x-mas. Could someone "in the know" such as Jacques  answer a few questions comparing the Panga 22 and PH22?

1) Which boat would be more stable in a marsh setting? I sometimes have the family running around in circles trying to reel in our monster redfish!

2) I like the PH22 because I could do some light offshore fishing. How does the PH22 compare to the panga in that area?

3) I worry about the high bow of the panga. Is visibility hindered at all?

4) As an "all around" boat, which one is the least one-dimensional (basically, which is most versatile)?

5) Lastly, which one is the least complex to build?

Thanks much for answering the questions. I only have a few weeks to decide! Thanks.

Fools rush in on Sundays when Jacques is taking the day off. So here goes...

The PH22.
redfishla wrote:2) I like the PH22 because I could do some light offshore fishing. How does the PH22 compare to the panga in that area?
The panga will safely handle higher waves. Flats boats prefer flat water.
redfishla wrote:3) I worry about the high bow of the panga. Is visibility hindered at all?
The PH22 will definitely have much better forward visibility. That high bow is one of the things that makes the panga a more seaworthy boat.

If you are in water deep enough to float it, the panga is more versatile.

The panga looks easier to me, and requires less materials, too.

Now, as usual, we can sit back and wait for Jacques to give the real answer.

Agree with all, especially that the panga would be MUCH easier to build.

Stable is a relative word the ph22 is wider so thusly it would experience less "wobble"

The panga will outclass the ph22 10 fold as far as offshore safety

anyboat with a high bow will have less visability then a "flat" boat

unless you have to get into 8" of water or less regurarly to catch those la reds the panga would give you more opportinities to fish more places... offshore.. nearshore... deeper backwaters...

The phantom without a doubt is the more complex to build boat.

The big differences between the panga and the phantom is that the panga is in the traditional work-boat fashion no frills.. it's designed to go fishing.. yet a similar statement can be made for the phantom.. it's designed to go fishing... :)
