If i prefer a semigloss or satin finish will i need to use a special flattening agent or will i be ok with a wet sand with 800-600 grit
Plan on using awlgrip if that makes a difference.

Re: Paint finish
Awlgrip is well known for its hardness and finish being related to the surface.
I have no expertise, but I doubt sanding it will succeed.
Most likely you will simply be damaging the surface and shortening the service life greatly.
I have nothing to offer; other than doubt.
I believe most varnishes are sort of naturally glossy and the way they become flat is by adding stuff to them. I expect paint is similar and probably with a service life penalty; but perhaps not.
Quantum 99 is a high solids formulation. It may 'flatten' with less penalty; not sure.

Re: Paint finish
Awlgrip flatting paste is the way to go. It's kind of expensive but works well.
Re: Paint finish
Especially with awlgrip you don't want to sand it. The resin comes to the top over the pigment. If you sand it you are removing the protection off the top. Flattening agent is the way to go.
