Thanks Karl and Lee.
The fourth and last floor has now been rough-shaped. Still need to cut limber holes in all four before sanding to final shape.

Yep.
Feather Pram will get plenty of use getting to and from Great Sandy and Skinnydip on their moorings on the Noosa River. When we cruise Great Sandy, she'll l be stowed on the foredeck for recreational rowing and tender duties in anchorages.
I rough-shaped the upper edge of Feather Pram's bow transom this afternoon.

GB your pram is looking great. I had never heard of Varnol, so looked it up and hope you can find it. It sounds perfect.

Varnol is my preference, but I can’t find a source for love nor money. Any forum reader’s suggestions welcome.
Today I rough-shaped and trial hot-glued into position Feather Pram’s three thwarts and supporting cleats.
The first pic shows the thwart layout, with the main and f’wd rowlock positions marked by blue tape on the gunwales. The second pic is looking forward, the third aft.
The main rowlock position is for rowing solo, the f’wd position for when rowing with a passenger seated aft.

Hi GB. I was curious about Varnol so did a quick search. According to forum posts on other forums:
Posts mention heating the mix to help the tar dissolve. As some components have a low flashpoint this should be done in a double boiler unless you like making hospital visits and insurance claims.
Hope this gives you somewhere to start.
- Varnol is not made anymore which would explain why it is hard to find.
- Similar products/mixes are known as boat soup in the US with recipes online in forums e.g. Varnol mix anyone
- Some people recommend Deks Olie #1 as an alternative. Deks Australia

Now I’m interested in what this stuff is! Sounds like the kind of needless danger I’m always looking to get myself into!
Re: ST21 'Skinnydip' build, and boating adventures, Noosa, Australia
so it looks like by some of these recipies, we have a polymerized oil with a dryer(so you don’t have to wait so long for it to cure). And pine tar, ie a natural resin. and turpintine( the solvent that keeps everything together)
I found a similar product, need to call to see about ordering. Here is the webpage. https://www.pinetarworld.com/fine-swedi ... rior-wood/
and another

As with any information from forum posts further research is necessary, especially before putting on that work of art. Garret and Ruth at the youtube channel Salt and Tar make their own boat soup and have a few videos on it.

Thanks MickeyGnz and jonnymac for the helpful info and leads. I'm looking forward to delving further. Again, thanks.
I've made a start rough-cutting and shaping the floor planks.
